Safely using fotspot

1. Why fotspot collects location information

fotspot collects location information to accurately place each fotspot where it was made, and to inform you when a fotspot is nearby. fotspot uses only the location information shared by your phone. When you first sign into fotspot we will ask permission to see your location.  If you decide later that you do not want fotspot to see your location, you can remove the permission using the phone settings.

2. Showing the location of your fotspot on the map in the fotspot app

In the fotspot app is a map showing the location of fotspots.  fotspot users can opt in to show the location of their fotspots on the map. The default setting is to not show. No information is ever shown on the map about the user who made a fotspot.

3. Offensive content

fotspot enables a user to hide fotspots they find offensive. This will make the fotspot invisible and remove it from the fotspot map. The process of hiding a fotspot should take no longer than a few minutes. The user who made the fotspot is notified that their fotspot has been hidden.  If they disagree with the fotspot being hidden they can appeal to fotspot at theteam@fotspot.co.uk. If we agree the fotspot is not offensive, we will unhide it.

4. Deleting your fotspots

fotspot enables users to delete fotspots they have made. To delete a fotspot go to fotspot > my fotspots, open the fotspot you want to delete, and press the trash can icon.  Deletion of a fotspot is irreversible and can’t be undone even if the deletion is by accident. Deleted fotspots cannot be seen by users and are removed from the fotspot map.

5. Deleting your fotspot account

fotspot allows users to delete their account.  This will delete your fotspot username and any fotspots you have made.  Account deletion is irreversible even if you do it by accident.  To delete the account go to fotspot > my fotspots > Settings > Delete Account

6. Keeping your login credentials private

Never share your username and password with anyone else. If you suspect that your account might be compromised, change your password immediately.  fotspot will never contact you to ask for your username and password.

7. Resetting your password

If you have forgotten your password, or believe it has been compromised, the fotspot app enables you to reset it.  Log out of the app and go to Login > Get help here. A reset password will be sent to the email address used to sign into fotspot.
